As you may know the genocide in Sudan, mainly the Darfur region, has been an ongoing problem for many years; as the years passed many organizations formed and got support. Some of these organizations are:
• S.T.A.N.D – STAND is a student organization against genocide. If this organization intrigues you, Norton High School just added a new chapter of STAND; all are welcome to come and join us. www.standnow.org
• Concern – concern is an organization that brings supplies food and other essentials to the Sudanese people affected by the war. www.concern.net
• UNHCR – United Nations High Commissioner for refugees maintains camps and helps people return to there communities. www.unhcr.org
• International Crisis Group – ICG is a group that helps monitor and support the Sudanese victims at a global level.
• Rock for Darfur – Rock for Darfur is a organization that holds benefit concerts for Sudan frequently. Though they scarcely come to Boston, check out their website and if you travel try to catch a show, it’s a great performance for a great cause. www.myspace.com/rockfordarfur
• Oxfam - ‘A group of volunteers founded Oxfam America in 1970 in response to the humanitarian crisis created y the fight for independence in Bangladesh.’ (Oxfam America) www.oxfamamerica.org
• Dream for Darfur – ‘China holds an unrivaled influence with the genocidal regime in Sudan. As Beijing prepares to host the 2008 Olympics, join us in urging china to use its leverage to persuade the Sudanese government to allow a civilian protection force into Darfur. (Dream) www.dreamfordarfur.org
• Invisible Children - ‘Who We Are - We are storytellers. We are visionaries, humanitarians, artists, and entrepreneurs. We are individuals’ part of a generation eager for change and willing to pursue it. As a non-profit we work to transform apathy into activism. By documenting the lives of those living in regions of conflict and injustice, we hope to educate and inspire individuals in the Western world to use their unique voice for change. Our media creates an opportunity for people to become part of a grassroots movement that intelligently responds to what’s happening in the world.’ www.invisiblechildren.com
• Instant Karma – A CD of John Lennon songs covered by current day artists which directly benefits stopping the genocide; it is a great CD with great music www.instantkarma.com

We should sponsor a child in Sudan. It makes all the difference is a child’s world, we could make a difference. We could keep the children in school. We could prevent this.

We should try to hold a concert for Sudan at the school auditorium and if its not too late we could use some of the talent show proceeds to help sponsor Sudanese children. If we hold a local bands concert we could get publicity on it and grow it to a size for the Tweeter center. Tweeter could help sponsor in a way by giving us a discount or free time there.

Breaking news
Yesterday on march 3rd 70 people were killed in the oil rich region of Abyei. The gov’t did sign a cease fire 3 years ago that supposedly ended the civil war but there has been fighting in this region lately.
